Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a practically inert engineering plastic and high density (2.1g/cm³). With high performance, low friction and exceptional resistance to a wide variety of chemicals. It has a very high melting point and its inherently flame retardant which makes it ideal for applications with continuous service temperature up to 260ºC. It also has a good UV and weather resistance while providing a good electrical insulation. Because of its inert nature it makes PTFE almost impossible to glue and mechanical properties are low compared to other engineering plastics.PTFE is applied in the chemical, oil, pharmaceutical, valve, and hydraulic industries.
